Nominations must be submitted by this weekend.
Publisher Michael Curran says the newspaper has received many calls from local businesspeople who were requesting an extension.
"It's more important to receive many quality nominations than stick to a predetermined deadline," says Mr. Curran. "We understand that people are busy, especially successful people."
Mr. Curran says the nomination process is designed to be straightforward and succinct, taking most people one hour. The easiest method to receive a nomination form is by visiting www.FortyUnder40.com . Interested parties can also contact Sue Perry at 744-4800 ext. 225 or email sue.perry@transcontinental.ca .
The annual awards program is designed to capture the entrepreneurial spirit and dynamism of Ottawa's business community. It balances business achievement and expertise with community involvement.
Forty business leaders under the age of 40 are selected from the nominees by an independent judging panel. All nominees are judged against a 40-point system - 20 points for business accomplishments, 10 points for expertise in their field and 10 points for community and charitable activities.
"What I really enjoy about this awards program is that it recognizes the quality of business leadership across many diverse sectors," says Mr. Curran.
"For example, last year's recipients included a home renovation contractor, an interior designer, a commercial printing executive and a fitness instructor in addition to the white-collar professionals and technology executives one would expect. Also, there's not one winner for this award. We recognize all 40 recipients for their accomplishments and their willingness to give back to the community at large. "
The recipients of the awards will be announced in April and celebrated at a gala in June.
