It was a lovely sunny day for the fifth annual Walk-a-Town fundraiser benefitting the Town of Mount Royal Volunteer Centre last Saturday.
Excitement was in the air as I approached the Recreation Centre for the event; not only was it the day for the fundraiser, but it was also opening day for all things soccer, and the masses were happily convening on the field in full spring celebration.
Roughly 70 people participated in this year’s walk, with about 30 additional volunteers working behind the scenes. I had a splendid time meeting up with friends and acquaintances; witness the column photo this week of yours truly with my great friend Marla Overland, CLSC social worker and founding member of the TMR Volunteer Centre, along with social worker Noémie Rossi and her adorable daughter, Delphine.
The event, a 5 km walk through our hood, culminated with a BBQ and numerous opportunities to win door prizes donated by our local merchants. Thanks to all who organized and participated in this event, with a special shout out to all the CLSC gang, with whom the Volunteer Centre has a partnership, and who come from throughout the city to lend their support.
Community support is of the essence, as it is criteria for continued government funding. The Centre provides rides, accompaniments and friendly visits for the elder and vulnerable population of the TMR community. For more information on how you can access their services, or become a volunteer, call 514 734-2923.
I will kee the words short this week and let the fun of the day come through in the photos I had so much fun snapping.
