For Earth Day, Town of Mount Royal living green…
(COMMUNIQUÉ)This year, the Town of Mount Royal will mark Earth Day in very eloquent fashion by inaugurating a brand new park. Thus, on Tuesday, April 22, at 9h, the lot that was occupied for many years by a service station on the corner of St Clare Road and Jean Talon will play host to an official ceremony where its conversion into a small park will be celebrated.

«In addition to the ecological reasons, the new park is also part of Town Council's desire to provide «greener» entryways into the Town. Earth Day is a perfect occasion to plant a tree there and inaugurate the new park. Mount Royal elected officials urge residents to show up in large numbers to celebrate this special day!» said Councillor Philippe Roy, who also chairs the Environment and Sustainable Development Advisory Committee.

Once again this year, activities celebrating Earth Day will go well beyond the confines of just one day in Mount Royal. In fact, the thematic events will be spread out over ten days or so.

Along those lines, on Sunday, April 19, the Town will present «The Janitor», a show without any words intended for the entire family that promotes environmental values. Wednesday, April 23, will mark the return of the popular evening of becoming familiar with domestic composting techniques. The year’s first pick-up of household hazardous waste (HHW) will take place on Saturday, April 26 – once again at the arena, sticking with tradition – and Mount Royal will launch its green waste collection pilot project on Wednesday, April 30.

During that same period, the Reginald-J.-P.-Dawson Library will be exposing various works on composting, organic horticulture and other green landscaping techniques, and some buildings, in cooperation with MIRA, will be used to set up new collection points for the recovery of used printer cartridges and cell phones.

« This year, the Town will hold a draw and participants will be eligible to win a copy of the book Earth from above, by photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand, as well as three pairs of tickets for the Montreal Nature Museums (Botanical Garden, Insectarium and Biodome)», Mr.Roy concluded.

The TMR Horticultural Society will also take part in the festivities by presenting a bilingual lecture by Stuart Webster, president of Stuart Webster Design/Daccord Webster Paysage. The conference will take place at Town Hall (90, Roosevelt Avenue) on the 22nd, at 7h30 pm. The event is free for the members of the Town of Mount Royal Horticultural Society or a fee of 5$ for non-members
