(COMMUNIQUÉ)The Ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine and the Ville de Montréal have launched a new subsidy program designed to support restoration work on Montréal heritage buildings and to preserve their original architectural features. The program, funded jointly by the Ministère and the Ville, was created thanks to the Fonds du patrimoine culturel québécois announced by the Quebec government in 2006, and applies to all cities and towns on the island of Montréal.
Under the restoration support program for buildings, sites and ensembles of significant heritage interest on the island of Montréal, building owners may receive assistance equivalent to 30% of the actual cost of the work, to a maximum of $250,000, when the building, its location and the restoration work to be done all meet the eligibility criteria. The assistance may be as much as 40% of the cost of the work for property classified under the Cultural Property Act. A total of $2.75 million has been earmarked for the program fund.
Further details are available on the Bureau du patrimoine Website,
www.ville.montreal.qc.ca and directly from the permit offices of the different boroughs, cities and towns. This program is offered under the Entente sur le développement culturel de Montréal.
